For some reason, (I have a lot of free time) I have decided to do some reviews of some classic horror franchises. I have kind of gotten away from horror movies lately but after a recent amazon.com shopping spree, I am now the proud owner of the entire catalog of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies. That even inlcudes the extremely crappy Freddy Vs Jason, which is sure to disappoint fans of both franchises. That, plus my Netflix membership makes it pretty easy to get my hands on movies pretty easily, so I have been in a horror mood lately.
I think the easiest way to do this will be to review each movie individually then review the entire series, that way each movie will be fresh in my mind.
I think I am going to start with what I consider to be the big four horror movie franchises in the past 25 years, those being (in no particular order, other than the order of my least favorite to favorite) Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Halloween. I'm gonna review them in that order too, since I just watched the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre the other day and I have them at all at the apartment right now from NetFlix. Also, I have only seen the original and the remake so its the series I know the least about, so it will be a way to write these things having just seen them instead of writing my thoughts about a movie that I have watched at least once a year for the past 15 years (Halloween).
Just so you* know, these reviews will be very spoiler heavy. I think the most recent will be Freddy Vs. Jason and even that is almost four years old. Even so come on, everyone knows what the fuck happens in these movies. The bad guy "dies" and somehow he comes back, not exactly Agatha Christie here folks.
If I keep with this, I might keep on reviewing other franchises. Just going to start with these four, maybe go to something else like Sci-Fi or Action franchises. The only thing I will exclude is anything that is released direct to video. I don't have the patience to figure out how many Hellraiser or Watchers movies there are so I am not going to waste my time.
This should be a fun little exercise for me and hopefully it will improve my writing skills and my film veiwing skills, both of which I want to work on. I want to do a review as soon as I see the movie and hopefully this will motivate me to get through a hefty chunk of my netflix queue. That being said, I hope I do stay with this and I hope more than one person reads it.
*When I say "you" I am not fooling myself. I know damn well that Jess is the only person who will even consider reading these, and once she sees what they are about, there goes my entire audience. So if you are the person who googled "horror reviews" then clicked to search page 25 and randomly clicked
on some assholes blog link, your welcome!
